Denise McPherson is an oil painter based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Born and raised in South Carolina, Denise studied Communications in college in Nashville, Tennessee where she met her husband. After twelve years in Tennessee, she and her family relocated to the small town of Stuart’s Draft, Virginia in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.
Forever in awe of nature, Denise loves painting the natural landscape and the beauty found therein. Inspired by the early impressionists, she often utilizes broken color, loose brushstrokes and painterly marks to capture the feeling and essence of a scene. Inspired by her South Carolina roots, Denise draws much inspiration from the Carolina Lowcountry. Her subjects often include sunsets over the salt marsh and surrounding coastal areas.
Other inspiration comes from her daily life in the Shenandoah Valley. Through her work, Denise hopes to convey the hope and beauty found in every season of life. Often juxtaposing a radiant sunset against the encroaching night, her work is a reminder that there is always light in the dark. Echoing John 1:5, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Her work can be found in private collections across the United States.
